Fascinating Friday! – Foods Before and After Genetic Modification 😱🍉

Fascinating (15).jpg

Hello, everyone! 🙂

Today is a special Friday because I am posting a NEW ‘Fascinating Friday’ post!! How long has it been? WAY too long. BUT, at least you are finally reading a new one, and I am very excited to share this one with you!

Most people have no idea what their everyday fruits and vegetables originally looked like before they were genetically modified. Perhaps you are wondering, what exactly is genetic modification?

Genetically Modified (of an organism or crop) containing genetic material that has been artificially altered so as to produce a desired characteristic.

Sounds kind of creepy if you ask me. lol Anyway, we’re going to take a look at some before and after pictures of some of the popular foods you enjoy. Let’s do this!

And there are just a few examples of the way our food has been genetically modified! Pretty insane, eh? It’s hard to believe these well-known foods used to look that different!

Well, I really hoped that you enjoyed today’s ‘Fascinating Friday!’ It is quite a bit shorter than my other ones but still thought that you would find it to be interesting. Let me know what you thought of today’s post, and if you have anything fascinating you want to see featured in a future issue! 🙂

I hope you are having an awesome Friday! I am really excited to share with you today’s post, featuring crazy new flavours from your favourite food brands available in 2018! This is a different type of post than previous ones on ‘Fascinating Friday,’ but think it is good to have variety! Speaking of variety, get ready for some whole new flavours to pick from the next time you visit the grocery store!

The new Starburst Sweet Heat really pack the spice in each of the four flavours; Fiery Watermelon, Flamin’ Orange, Strawberry Mango, and Pipin’ Pineapple.

#2 – Sour Patch Kids Fire

In case regular Sour Patch Kids weren’t tongue-twisting enough, you can get the Fire flavour that adds some heat to the candy before turning sweet!

#3 – Go-Gurt Sour Patch Kids

Pucker up! These Go-Gurt Sour Patch Kid tubes come in blue raspberry and redberry. The sweet-and-sour taste brings a whole new excitement to snack time.

#4 – New Diet Coke Flavors

opp.jpgCalling all Diet Coke lovers! There are four new millennial-oriented flavours hitting shelves in 2018: twisted mango, zesty blood orange, feisty cherry, and ginger lime. The new additions, along with classic Diet Coke, will come in new slim cans.

#5 – Spicy Guacamole Pringles

This is no ordinary avocado. Spice up your next fiesta with the fiesty flavour sensation of Pringles Spicy Guacamole

#6 – Lucky Charms Frosted Flakes

This cereal combo is gonna be grrrrrreat! Even though there’s no sign of Tony the Tiger — “frosted flakes” isn’t trademarked by General Mills — we still know this cereal will make mornings even more magically delicious.

#7 – Marshmallows Peeps Oreos, Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos, Firework Oreos, and Hot and Spicy Cinnamon Oreos

ore.jpgHot and Spicy Cinnamon Oreos were available January 1st. Seasonal favourites like Marshmallows Peeps Oreos, Chocolate Hazelnut Oreos and Firework Oreos are also hitting the shelves this year.

#10 – Piña Colada, Cherry Cola, and Kettle Corn OREOS

The Piña Colada Oreo Thins are a vanilla cookie containing a pineapple-coconut filling. It’s as if you were transported to the tropics for just a split-second.

The next cookie, Cherry Cola, is an original chocolate Oreo cookie stuffed with a side-by-side filling of a red-and-wine cherry and cola flavoured creme complete with popping candy to act as the soda carbonation.

The final cookie, Kettle Corn, is a vanilla sandwich cookie filled with a creme filling dotted with puffed millet pieces to mimic popcorn.

The three Oreo flavours will be released in May 2018 and customers will be asked to vote for their favourites.

I hope you really enjoyed today’s ‘Fascinating Friday!’ There are some really wacky new flavours coming out! Some of them I wouldn’t want to try, but some look really good! THE SAD NEWS: I live in Canada. I can’t try like any of these products. I’m going to make a post or two on why the US is far better than Canada. The US is awesome, I really wish I lived there. Not to say there aren’t things I like about Canada, but the US has far more to offer.

Fascinating Friday! – Incredible Little Creatures You Have No Idea Exist!

Fascinating (9).jpg

Hey, everyone!

Thank you for joining me for the 10th Fascinating Friday! I hope all of you are having a great day and can’t wait to show you some incredible creatures you have no idea exist! I can’t believe this is my 10th issue of Fascinating Friday!’ These are going so well, and I am having a lot of fun! I hope you are as well. 😊

Are you ready to see some stunning little creatures? Get ready to be amazed! 🚀

a1.jpgThe Striated Frogfish – This small fish, just about 8 – 9 inches long, has the capacity to change coloration and pigment pattern. The first dorsal spine of the frogfish tips forward and is used as a fishing rod. Its tip has a characteristic worm-like lure which, when waved, attracts unsuspecting prey.

a4.jpgThe Red-Lipped Batfish – This unreal-looking little fish species can be found around the Galapagos Islands at depths of 100 feet or more. Batfish are not good swimmers; they use their highly-adapted pectoral fins to “walk” on the ocean floor. It eats shrimps, small fish, crabs, etc.

rer.jpga6.jpgThe Mantis Shrimp – Mantis shrimps have powerful claws that they use to attack and kill prey by spearing, stunning or dismemberment. When kept in captivity, some larger species are capable of breaking through aquarium glass with a single strike. 😱

a7.jpgBoxer Crab – These little crabs from the family Xanthidae are notable for their mutualism with sea anemones, which they hold in their claws for defence. In return, the anemones get carried around which enables them to capture more food particles.

a8.jpgBlue Dragon – Commonly known as the sea swallow, blue dragon or blue angel; the Glaucus atlanticus, is actually a type of small-sized blue sea slug. These slugs feed on other pelagic creatures and reach lengths of up to 1.2 inches.

What did you think of these amazing creatures? I had NO idea they even existed! I hope that you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed making it for you! Thank you for reading, and have a great weekend! 😃

If you have the time, I would love to hear from you!

Fascinating Friday! – Photos of Australia’s Creatures That Will Leave You In Awe!

Fascinating (7).jpg

Hey Everyone! 😃

Welcome to the 8th Fascinating Friday! I hope Y’All are having an awesome day! I am very excited for today’s post which is about some of the animals in Australia. This country is truly incredible and has some awesome and scary creatures! Viewing some of these amazing photos will show you a few of the reasons why. Are you ready?

Here we go! 🚀

au1.jpgThis is a picture of a jellyfish that crashed on the rocky shore and died. Think of how scary it would be to be swimming around with that thing in the water!

Enormous, human-friendly Australian insects! 😱

Terrifying giant crab exploring garbage can! 😱 🦀

Crocodile with Shark in its mouth! 🐊 🦈 😯

Giant lizard on the exterior of a house! 🦎

Man retrieving a sheep on his scooter! 😯 😂

The snakes in Australia are absolutely INSANE!! 🐍

Who wouldn’t want to take home a prize crocodile in the back of their truck? 🐊

Meet the reef stonefish. It lives on reef bottoms camouflaged as a rock and is the most venomous known fish in the world. It can be lethal to humans. 😱

Then there’s the blue-ringed octopus. While it may look cool, it is known to hide out in the Australian tide pools and is also responsible for over 20 recorded deaths. On top of that, there is no known anti-venom for the powerful poison it possesses. Death can occur within two hours of getting stung.

Passengers, onboard a flight from Australia to Papua New Guinea were incredibly shocked to look out their cabin windows and see a 3-meter snake handing off the wing of the plane. ✈️

This is the teeny-tiny jellyfish known as the Irukandji jellyfish. Their venom is 100 times as potent as a cobra and 1,000 times as potent as a tarantula. Yeah, not good whatsoever.

Check out this tube-building polychaete worm known as the Christmas Tree Worm that lives in tropical reefs and comes in a variety of bright colours!

WOW! I found some of that kind of terrifying! Australia has some cool, but also CREEPY creatures! Could you imagine coming home to having a lizard that big on your house? Or having a giant crab going through your trash cans? How about seeing one of those enormous worms or accidentally stepping on a blue-ringed octopus? Aah!! FREEKY. Even still, Australia is really cool, and I think it would be really fun to visit!

Thanks so much for reading, and if you found this post interesting, please comment below! 😃

Fascinating Friday! – Secret Mountaintop Villa On Top of Beijing Penthouse 😯

Fascinating (6).jpg

Hello all! 😃

Thanks for joining me for the 7th ‘Fascinating Friday!’ I am very excited for today’s post and really hope that you find it interesting! Today we are learning about a doctor who spent six years and $130,000 transforming his penthouse apartment into a mountain retreat only to be told to tear it down by officials who said the work was done without permission. 🙁

We’ll dig a little deeper into this story, view some awesome pictures, and take a drone tour right to the top of the penthouse! Are you ready? Here we go! 🚀

First off, take a look at the video below! It gives a brief overview of the story and takes you on a tour to the top of the penthouse!

mount2.jpgZhang Biqing, who founded a chain of Chinese medicine clinics, bought the 26th-floor dwelling and then moved rocks, wooden panels and shrubbery to the roof using a service elevator. Inside it featured a gym, open-air swimming pool, and several dining and guest rooms.

mount3.jpgHe told the newspaper he spent $130,000 on the work, which he said was to make the rooftop pipework look prettier. He said the project began with a small number of plants and some bamboo, but that he was forced to add wooden structures to stop his additions from blowing away. Much of the rock-like edifice is actually painted materials. The project even had a vineyard!

Rocky style villa on the roof of a tower block, Haidian, China - 12 Aug 2013The mountaintop home also had walkways and a wooden trellis for climbing plants for the owner to enjoy. Some neighbours said water and drainage pipes had broken because of the enormous rocky structure above them and their apartments had regularly been flooded.

Rocky style villa on the roof of a tower block, Haidian, China - 12 Aug 2013Neighbours feared the two-story structure had damaged the building’s internal pipework and foundations and said they have long complained about noise and disruption from construction. Unless Zhang could secure permission by proving the structure was not unsafe, it would have to be torn down within 15 days.

mount6.jpgThe villa was taken down more than four months after Beijing Haidian district’s chengguan, or urban management authorities ruled that it was an illegal building and ordered Zhang Biqing to dismantle it within 15 days.

mount1It’s kind of too bad that he couldn’t keep his awesome mountaintop villa, but it had to be taken down due to structural issues it was causing, never mind that it was made illegally!

Even though this place has been dismantled, I thought it would make a really cool post! I hope that you found it as fascinating as I did! 😃

BONUS! – FUN FACT!💡 Illegal rooftop buildings have been found in other cities in China after Zhang’s villa was exposed. Twelve illegal rooftop buildings ranging from 180 to 240 sq m were reported in Guiyang, capital of Guangzhou province. The owners reached agreement with local authorities to dismantle them.
